Happenings April 17-24

Head to the Brooklyn Botanic Garden to experience the Magnolias in full bloom. For those that missed the early blooms, the late bloom Magnolias are just as gorgeous in hues of ivory, yellow, pink and purple. Many of the late bloomers are special hybrids and are named after the women who influenced the creation of the Magnolia collection. Hours are as follows Tuesday-Thursday: 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. (last entry 7:30 p.m.), Friday-Sunday: 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. (last entry 5:30 p.m.) and April 22-25: 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. (last entry 3 p.m.). On April 19 from 6-9pm join Round Midnight Dinner and Supper Jam for a live music R&B event featuring local chefs in the Bay area who have curated a delectable four course dinner with wine parings. If in Los Angeles celebrate 4/20 at The Cannabis Supper Club. The marijuana centered club is hosting a Flavors of 420 Dinner on April 20 at 5 pm.  The culinary experience is created by Chef Chris Binotto and includes a loaded Baked Potato, Quesadilla, Top Ramen, Karage Style Smoked Fried Chicken, and S'mores. Mickalene Thomas is reclaiming all of our time with her latest exhibition Mickalene Thomas: All About Love at the Haywood Gallery in Southbank Centre in London. The exhibit features portraits of Black women at rest participating in the silent movement of reclaiming time and space. The large scale works include her family friends, lovers and models and reflect her tenderness for each subject. The exhibition runs through May 5 2025. Explore African mask and masquerades at New Orleans Museum of Art latest exhibition New African Masquerades Artistic Innovations and Collaborations. The exhibit highlight works of four  West African artists Chief Ekpenyong Bassey Nsa, Sheku “Goldenfinger” FofanahDavid Sanou, and Hervé Youmbi, examining the West African Masquerade within a range of social, economic, and religious practices and their networks of viewership and exchange. The LVMH Foundation in Paris has invited artist David Hockney to take over all its exhibition spaces with a show that includes more than 400 works from 1955 to 2025. Considered one of  the most influential artists on the 20th and 21st century, Hockney immerses viewers into his world with pieces from the last 25 years. The exhibition runs through August 31, 2025. On April 23 at 6pm join The Remedy Studios and the Feelings Garden on a after work stroll through Midtown Atlanta. The group will start off at Bar Premio inside the Fourth Hotel to pick up a iced coffee or Matcha and then head out on the Eastside of the Beltline toward Krog Street Market.
