Painter Freddie Styles recently lost his home to a fire and gallery owner September Gray is hosting a fundrasier for the Atlanta based artist. Known for creating works that reflect the natural world, Styles' pieces have been commissioned by the U.S. Department of State. Styles uses his canvas to draw attention to scenes rarely captured by Black artists. The fundrasier will take place on June 22 from 2-5pm at the Hammonds House Museum. As part of Black Music Month The Atlanta City Studio Book Club and Atlanta's Mayor's Office of Film & Entertainment present Chronicaling Stankonia: The Rise of Hip-Hop in The South. The author talk and panel discussion features founder of One Music Fest J Carter, Industry vet and CEO of Silence The Shame Shanti Das, Executive Director of Atlanta Contemporary Floyd Hall and author of Chronicaling Stankonia Dr. Regina N. As part of Fifth Avenue Blooms, Longchamp is hosting a pop- up cafe featuring Parisian treats. Named La Boulangerie Longchamp, the sidewalk cafe is hosted in partnership with Angelina Paris USA and features their famous hot chocolate and French pastries. While stroling along Fifth Avenue guests can also view "Fifth Avenue Rose," a floral installation created specifically for Fifth Avenue Blooms. In celebration of Black Music Month the Mocada Museum is hosting Radio City: Afropop + MoCADA + WYNE Present: Alsarah & The Nubatones on June 27th from 6-9 pm at the Mocada Culture Lab in Brooklyn. While visiting Virginia this summer, don't miss Burden of the Beast, a giant installation by Walker Babington, at the Hermitage Museum and Gardens that explores how rising sea levels affect cities like Norfolk,Va and New Orleans, the two U.S. cities most at risk of sea levels rising. The interactive exhibition features a 32 ft tall sculpture made from driftwood and other salvaged materials from New Orleans carnival floats. The use of reclaimed wood and sea debris emphasizes human fragility and our ethical responsibilties toward technology. The exhibit runs through October.
