Happenings August 8th - 13th

                                                              
The Martha’s Vineyard Black American Film Festival continues through August 9th and there is so much to see and do. The festival has attracted the best of brightest of the Black community and the festivities continue through the weekend. For more information and the festival line-up go to mvaff.com.

On August 9th join Spike Lee in his beloved Brooklyn for a Pop-Up Stoop Sale. The sale features vintage posters from pulled from the 40 Acres and a Mule vault. Lee will be there signing books and posters. The event takes place at 75 South Eliot Place from 12pn -7pm.. For more information go to @officialspikelee.



The night sky is putting on a show starting on August 9th with the Full Sturgeon Moon and then The Perseid Meteor Shower on August 12th -13th with more than 100 meteors falling at a peak rate of 150 meteors per hour that will light up the night. If you can drive out to the country with a blanket and some snacks it will be well worth the trip and …. it’s free.  

Enjoy Jazz Sundays in Anacostia on August 10tth from 4p-6pm at 1234 Marion Barry Ave SE. The concert is part of an 8- week series the runs through September 7th, 2025. The August 10th concert features Jeremiah “Jus Breal” Boulware. Attendees are encouraged to being lawn chairs. On Sunday August 10th RAISEFashion, Awet New York are hosting and the DJ Henry Dream Fund the second annual Black Owned Brands Summer Bazaar at the Dragonfly House. This is the first the bazaar is being co-hosted with RAISEFashion, a non profit that works for equity in the fashion industry. The Black Owned Brand Summer Bazaar is focused on Black owned luxury brands such as Aisling Camps, Awet New York, DLSH Creations, Gwen Beloti, Harbison Studio House of Aama and more. The event is from 12pm-4pm and serves as a space for connection and mentorship. For more information go to @awetgw.

Join the Baltimore Farm Alliance and The National Wildlife Federation for Pollinators & Produce, a natural skincare workshop. Taking place at Hidden Harvest Farm in Baltimore on Tuesday August 12th from 5:30 pm -7:30 pm, the workshop will cover native plants and their medicinal uses, skin analysis and face mapping, plant based skin care recipes. Culture House, the curated event that merges tech and entertainment, touches down on Martha’s Vineyard on August 13.th.
