Happenings January 18th -25th

                                           
Today marks the AFCON final where Senegal meets Morocco at Morocco. Days before the match PUMA and CAF dropped the official match ball that has garnered world wide fandom. In typical football drama many have stated the unfair advantage Morocco has with a little over 2,000 tickets allotted for Senegal fans. Either way this match is going to be a fight until the end. The match begins at 2pm EST. You can watch the match on the E4 (UK) Youtube channel or beIN Sports. Streaming is available on Fubo.

AFCON finals parties are taking place around the world. In the United States cities like Atlanta and New York are hosting several events to celebrate the finals. For more information go to @5asidemedia.

Recover from the AFCON festivities at the Tate Britain with a free yoga class. The museum is hosting classes in partnership with Morey  Yoga and the Tate Collective for Wellness Week. The classes are from 8:30 am -9:30 am January 19, 21, and 24th. Evening classes are 6:30 pm -7:30 pm Tuesday and Thursday January, 20th and 22rd. The tickets are free. If you haven’t dropped by the Louis Vuitton pop-up in SOHO, it’s a muse see. The exhibition is a homage to 130 years of the LV monogram created in 1896 by Georges Vuitton.  The immersive experience transports visitors to a “Louis Vuitton Hotel” that expands on the spirit of travel. The pop-up features themed rooms like Keepall Lobby, Neverfull Gym, Speedy rooms, Noé Champagne Bar and Alma Terrace, each inspired by LV bag designs and filled with exclusive editions and craftsmanship details. The pop-up also offers Care Services for restoration and personalization options such as hot-stamping and unique patches available only on site. The pop-up is open now through April 2026. Martin Luther King Jr. weekend is in full swing with the Studio Museum in Harlem is offering a full day of free programming on Monday, January 19th from 11am - 6pm. The event will honor MLK with gallery tours, art making, screenings and more. The Atlanta History Center is celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, on Monday, January 19th  from 10am - 4pm with an annual MLK Jr. Day Celebration. The event titled “I Influence The Dream” allows visitors to trace Atlanta influence on the Civil Rights Movement through the generations through exhibitions, talks with area experts, and interactive experiences. Downtown The National Center for Civil and Human Rights is hosting a full day of activities on Monday. January 19th.  Building on the Theme of “The Time is Right To Do What is Right” the day includes a Dr. King scavenger hunt, a DIY King button-making activity, a collaborative mural inspired by King’s life and words, and King-themed challenge cards that encourage us all to become changemakers beyond the Center’s walls. At 11am The Palefsky Collision Project will give an MLK Day performance reimaging Blaze – inspired by Octavia Butler’s Parable of the Sower. The event is free with museum admission. xplores how a Black artist from the Jim Crow South built an institution that carried Black dancers to the world’s most prestigious stages The screening is followed by a conversation with and audience Q&A with Alicia Graf Mack, Artistic Director of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and former Ailey star dancerDr. Karcheik Sims-Alvarado, author of Atlanta and the Civil Rights Movement, 1944-1968 and Georgia and the Power of the Vote, as well as Assistant Professor of Africana Studies and Director of Public History and Historic Preservation at Morehouse College, and Dr. Dwight Andrews, Professor of Music Theory and African American Music at Emory University and pastor of First Congregational Church in Atlanta. For more information and to purchase tickets go to civilandhumanrights.org.

On Thursday, January 22, from 6:30pm – 10 pm join the Smithsonian National Museum of African in Washington, DC for Afro Beat Vibes a night celebrating African music and culture. Fashion lovers can flock to Richmond, Virginia’s Branch Museum of Design for Undeniable: The Designs of Christian Siriano + Ashley Longshore
. The exhibition explores how fashion shapes our identity and understanding of the outside world. The exhibition features pieces worn by Beyoncé, Halle Berry, Michael Urie, Zendaya, and Céline Dion. The Branch will also present a curated selection of Siriano’s designs worn by Billy Porter, Oprah, Lady Gaga, and Jane Fonda.
