 Happy Black History Month!!

                                               
Kick off Black History Month on Wednesday, February 4th from at 5pm at Brooklyn Borough Hall for “Brooklyn’s Finest Legends in Focus” a photography exhibit curated by Jonathan Rheingold featuring the work of Jamel Shabazz, Mike Schreiber, Sarah A Friedman, Lisa Leone, Barron Claiborne and more.  In Norfolk, Virginia The Chrysler Museum is hosting One Love a celebration of Bob Marley’s birthday on Thursday,  February 5th  from 5pm-9pm.  The event features music, a Curator and Cocktails chat, a look at "Beyond the Mountains: Danny Lyon’s Photography in Haiti,” a screening of “Babylon,” a vinyl market, and a drum circle. The High Museum of Art is closing out the last weeks of the Viktor & Rolf: Fashion Statements with Dress, Dine and Wine on Thursday, February 5th from 5=9pm. The four-course meal is hosted by The High’s Chief Curator Kevin W Tucker and Elise Beverage Manager Erick Potrikus. The dinner is prepared by Chef Craig Richards with thematic wine pairings. Then on Saturday, February 7th  from 2-3pm join
acclaimed photographers Ahmad Barber and Donté Maurice for a conversation about their work. Known as AB+DM the duo has worked for Vanity Fair, InStyle Magazine, Harper’s Bazaar Arabia and more capturing images of Will Smith, Lady Gaga, Viola Davis and Zendaya just to name a few. The Perez Art Museum in Miami is hosting Cultural icon Fab 5 Freddy with a weekend featuring an artist talk and gala. On Friday, February 6th Fab 5 Freddy is in conversation with Franklin Sirmans the Sandra and Tony director at PAMM. The talk includes cocktails and light bites. On Saturday, February 7th Perez Art Museum in Miami PAMM is celebrating the legacy of Fab 5 Freddy at the Art & Soul Gala. Freddy, a cultural pioneer, is best known as a host on Yo! MTV Raps. However, his influence is much more extensive as one of the earliest figures to move graffiti from the streets into galleries, reshaping contemporary art in the process. From his iconic Warhol soup cans on the New York City subway to co-hosting Yo! MTV Raps. The event includes dinner and cocktails and a celebration party. OkCello is taking his unique sounds that blend the classical violin with jazz and beats from Atlanta to Las Vegas for two performances at the Las Vegas Library District. On Friday, February 6th OkCello will be at the Windmill Library from 7-8pm and on Saturday, February 7th at the Clark County Library from 2pm-3pm. In Charleston, SC Black Charleston, Drummond Studio Gallery have partnered for “Still Waters Run Deep” The exhibition draws on Japanese and Southern narrative influences to explore identity, spirituality and memory. The body of work emphasizes “depth over immediacy and reflection over spectacle.” The opening reception is Saturday, February 7th from 5pm-9pm at Drummond Studio Gallery. On Saturday, February 7th, join DJ Envy for The Dream Family Reunion an annual event celebrating culture and history. The event is from 11am-7pm and takes place at Court A in American Dream mall in East Rutherford, NJ. Lucia in Los Angeles is honoring Black History Month with a four week tasting series that explores the African Diaspora. Curated by two-time James Beard Award finalist Chef Cleophus Hethington The first week is centered on Africa The Source. The second week is focused on Afro-Latino Adaptation & Survival. On February 7th and 8th Beis – the luggage company- is hosting Beis Bowl at San Francisco Brewing Co. The event includes shopping, a DJ, food, games, and prizes plus a Super Bowl watch party. This year the Getty Museum in Los Angeles is being intentional about observing Black History Month. On view is "Beginnings: The Story of Creation in the Middle Ages." The exhibit  runs through April 19, 2026 and shows Black people reflected in the world’s origin story in paintings by LA based artist Harmonia Rosales. For more information go to getty.edu.
