Looking out on the horizon, I see a rapidly transforming world. A world where the focus of what we value is shifting. Over the weekend I binged watched Bloomberg Originals - a good habit of mine. I think Bloomberg is doing a fantastic job at developing programming that helps viewers understand the future and get curious about what’s to come. I predict that as the possibilities in renewable energy, solar power, and AI become more mainstream people of color, particularly Black Americans, are going to be inspired.
As more and more people learn that Arabs and Africans were the first to map the stars, I am almost certain there will be a renewed interest in astronomy. There’s a renewed interest in how the moon and stars affect everything from gardening to behavior, and I'm certain people are going to start looking up. Plus, it’s free to look up. In a perfect world, people of color are at the forefront of space travel. Black and Brown people being at the helm of the new frontier by embracing ancient wisdom would be the 360 moment I've been anticipating. In the Torah G-d tells the people to mark time using the moon, and I’m passionate about holding fast to that part of Jewish culture. I’m also looking forward to learning more about the practice as we move into 2026. Re-learning what has been lost when it comes to astronomy is going to be a really big theme this year. Expect deeper dives into ancient Egypt, more visits to Egypt, and an increased interest in how the ancients maintained urban city centers using irrigation systems, renewable energy, and solar power. (Things you can replicate in your own backyard or neighborhood)
Speaking of Africa and Arab lands, I think that part of the world, particularly Africa is going to be on everyone’s radar. From Black Americans moving back to The Continent to African football/soccer gaining more momentum, I believe Africa possesses an allure of modernity and rootedness that is impossible to ignore. African ingenuity in fashion, science, and climate change is set to dominant conversations with tourism increasing over the next five years. The most important part will be the knowledge exchange and creativity that will come out of this.
Climate change and sustainability are also going to be a big topic, because there is so much opportunity in those sectors. People of color are affected the most by climate change, but Black Americans make up only 8%-9% of STEM fields. Underrepresented, but affected the most by climate change and environmental racism, I predict a surge of Black Americans getting involved in the fight to save our planet. Climate change and sustainability are sexy. They involve innovation, intelligence, and traveling to some of the most beautiful places on Earth. Not to mention tackling climate change and implementing sustainability practices are dependent upon the community – it’s a group project.
The current political landscape is going to force us to put our heads together to survive. I think it’s going to be beautiful and we’re going to round a corner when it comes to how social media is used, and what kind of information is shared on the platforms. Just imagine scholars and scientist becoming the new Influencers. I'm looking forward to a new generation of Bill Nyes and doing science experiments in my kitchen.
I hope you enjoy the content this week.
